A New Atmospheric Model for HD 189733 b
نویسنده
چکیده
We have developed a new two-dimensional hydrostatically-balanced isobaric hydrodynamic model for use in simulation of exoplanetary atmospheres. We apply this model to the infrared photosphere of the hot Jupiter HD 189733 b, for which an excellent 8-μm light curve has been obtained. For reasonable parameter choices, the results of our model are consistent with these observations. In our simulations, strongly turbulent supersonic flow develops, with wind speeds of approximately 5 km s−1. This flow geometry causes chaotic variation of the temperature distribution, leading to observable variations in the light curve from one orbit to the next. A posteriori detection of the planetary transit of HD 189733 b in the Hipparcos photometry
Aims. Thanks to observations performed at the Haute-Provence Observatory, Bouchy et al. recently announced the detection of a 2.2-day orbital period extra-solar planet that transits the disk of its parent star, HD 189733. We searched in the Hipparcos photometry Catalogue possible detections of those transits. Methods. Statistic studies were performed on the Hipparcos data in order to detect tra...
متن کاملELODIE metallicity - biased search for transiting Hot Jupiters ⋆ II . A very hot Jupiter transiting the bright K star HD 189733
Among the 160 known exoplanets, mainly detected in large radial-velocity surveys, only 8 have a characterization of their actual mass and radius thanks to the two complementary methods of detection: radial velocities and photometric transit. We started in March 2004 an exoplanet-search programme biased toward high-metallicity stars which are more frequently host extra-solar planets. This survey...
متن کاملTransits and secondary eclipses of HD 189733 with Spitzer
We present limits on transit timing variations and secondary eclipse depth variations at 8 microns with the Spitzer Space Telescope IRAC camera. Due to the weak limb darkening in the infrared and uninterrupted observing, Spitzer provides the highest accuracy transit times for this bright system, in principle providing sensitivity to secondary planets of Mars mass in resonant orbits. Finally, th...
متن کاملLooking for Super-earths in the Hd 189733 System: a Search for Transits in Most Space-based Photometry
We have made a comprehensive transit search for exoplanets down to ≃1.5 2 Earth radii in the HD 189733 system, based on 21-days of nearly uninterrupted broadband optical photometry obtained with the MOST (Microvariability & Oscillations of STars) satellite in 2006. We have searched these data for realistic limb-darkened transits from exoplanets other than the known hot Jupiter, HD 189733b, with...
متن کاملTowards consistent mapping of distant worlds: secondary-eclipse scanning of the exoplanet HD 189733b⋆
Context. Mapping distant worlds is the next frontier for exoplanet infrared (IR) photometry studies. Ultimately, constraining spatial and temporal properties of an exoplanet atmosphere (e.g., its temperature) will provide further insight into its physics. For tidallylocked hot Jupiters that transit and are eclipsed by their host star, the first steps are now possible. Aims. Our aim is to constr...
